Vero Beach Art Club
Racquetball Building "Birds of the Park" Mural
Under the direction of Carol Makris, Vero Beach Art Club members painted an amazing mural depicting birds in their natural habitat on the on the north side of the Racquetball building at Riverside Park on Orchid Island.
Carol explains how she came up with the mural design "When I was brainstorming for several design ideas to present to the City Council, Sue Dinneno suggested 'birds on a branch' as one of those ideas. So, I searched for birds that are native to central Florida. I selected the most interesting ones based on design and color only. The recreation dept. voted on their favorite design which was the birds (and they didn't want to make any changes to my selection of birds). In the end, I never anticipated that the public would take such an interest in the art project and in the specific types of birds represented."
The Design
Project leader Carol Makris sketches out the layout for the birds and tree.
The mural helped the Vero Beach Art Club celebrate their 80th Anniversary.
Painting the Sky
Volunteer Peter Coe painted the sky as a backdrop for the local birds to come.
Almost Done
It took 17 days to complete the project with 5 Vero Beach Art Club volunteers.
