Tent and Fire Extinguishers Requirements

Vero Beach Art Club

IMPORTANT UPDATE - flame retardant tent certificates and
fire extinguishers

The Vero Beach Art Club has recently been informed by the County Fire Prevention Department of new requirements for all special events using tents in Indian River County. (If you do not use a tent, this does not apply to you.) We recommend all vendors to have their own fire extinguishers, and it is required to have a flame retardant certificate for all tents. These can be found with the printed materials with your tent purchase or you can look for your tent manufacturer online.

ALL TENTS shall have a FLAME RETARDANT CERTIFICATE on-site.

FIRE EXTINGUISHERS: One (1) minimum rated (2A 10B C) currently tagged/inspected by a licensed company is recommended for each vendor. Fire extinguishers must be visible and readily available. Artists who do NOT USE A TENT (sculptors or other who just set up under a tree) are NOT required to have a Fire Extinguisher.

Any vendor found NOT COMPLYING with the Fire Prevention and Life Safety Codes shall be issued a cease and desist order by the Fire Marshall which will remain in effect until compliance is made.

See link below as these regulations may change at any time and are regulated by the Indian River Fire Division.

*Upon inquiry we were informed that most tents manufactured within recent years have tags attached that identify them as flame retardant. If your tent is not so tagged you should be able to obtain a certificate or statement from the manufacturer or vendor from whom you purchased.

You can contract with TENTS 4 EVENTS or with EVENTMAKERS to rent a tent that is certified as flame retardant. They will deliver and set up your tent on Wednesday and remove it on Monday. Contact them directly if you require their services. This paragraph pertains to Under the Oaks Only.

“We found that EZ UP tents have their fire certificates online and you can print one out by going to the following website: www.ezup.com/support/support/fire-certifications. Other manufacturers have them available online for you to print out as well.”

"My tent is over 10 years old so I was afraid I would need a new one to meet fire rating. I called the company Creative Energies 1-800-351-8889 and this is what they said. The tag is sewn into the top piece of the tent. The number on it has to start with NFP-701. This is for Light Dome and Finale tents. If it has CPA-184 it is not fire retardant. If you are unlucky and it is not fire retardant you can buy just the top piece not the whole tent by calling the number above. I was lucky and although my tent it old it has the certificate. You can also go to their website www.lightdomecanopies.com and download the certificate. It is on the left side of homepage scrolling down to fire rating. Most professional artists have this tent so I hope this will answer questions."
